The New England Patriots came into Super Bowl XLII as heavy favorites having gone undefeated in the regular season and unbeaten in the playoffs for an 18-0 mark. The Giants had won 3 straight playoff games beating Tampa Bay, Dallas, and Green Bay all on the road. The defining moment of the game came with a minute left, the Patriots up by 4. Third down and 5, Manning scrambles and finds David Tyree down field who catches the ball against his helmet. A few plays later Manning finds Plaxico Burress in the endzone for the game winning touchdown.

The 1985 Chicago Bears are known as one of the best teams of all time and showed it in the Super Bowl defeating the New England Patriots 46-10. While the Bears defense was stifiling all season long there were many players and personalities that made up this great team. Head Coach Mike Ditka, Walter Payton, Jim McMahon, Mike Singletary, Richard Dent, and a rookie defensive tackle named William “Refrigerator” Perry who on occasion was used as a fullback. With a 37-3 lead in the 3rd quarter and the Bears on the Patriots one yard line Coach Ditka called for the 6′2″ 380 pound Fridge to line up in the backfield and take a handoff from McMahon. Perry broke through the line and scampered in for a touchdown.
Off the field the ‘85 Bears became known for their video recording of the “Super Bowl Shuffle” which actually went as high as #41 on the Billboard charts and received a Grammy nomination for best R&B song by a group.

But the Giants would turn things around led by game MVP Phil Simms who completed an unbelievable 88% of his passes including 3 touchdowns. The Giants would win the game 39-20.

In the first Super Bowl following the NFL/AFL merger, the Baltimore Colts of the AFC beat the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC. The score was tied at 13 with 5 seconds remaining when Jim O’Brien of the Colts kicked the game winning field goal. The game featured 11 turnovers, 2 interceptions and a fumble coming at the hands of Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley who would go on to be the game MVP. Howley was the first ever defensive player to be named Super Bowl MVP and is still the only player to win the award who was on the losing team.

The Green Bay Packers of the NFL defeated the Kansas City Chiefs of the AFL 35-10 in what would become known as the Super Bowl. The Packers were coached by Vince Lombardi and the trophy given annually to the Super Bowl champion bears his name.

Jan 12, 1969 – Jets upset Colts in Super Bowl III
Thursday, January 12th, 2012The Baltimore Colts and the New York Jets faced off in the third AFL-NFL Championship game, the first to be referred to as a Super Bowl game. The Colts entered the game as heavy favorites but Jets QB Joe Namath predicted and guaranteed that his team would win. He was right as the Jets upset the Colts 16-7 to become the first AFL team to win a Super Bowl. Namath was voted the game MVP.
