Wrapping up the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the Canadians take on team USA in men’s hockey for the gold medal. Canada held a 2-0 lead in the 2nd period but the US fought back with a goal by Ryan Kesler to cut the deficit to one. USA goalie Ryan Miller kept his team’s hopes alive by not allowing any scoring by Canada in the 3rd period. In the last minute of regulation Miller went to the bench for an extra skater. Zach Parise picked up a loose puck and tied the game with just 24 seconds left. But it was the home nation that would prevail in overtime on a goal by Sidney Crosby assisted by Jarome Iginla.

For the third time in the 2010 season a pitcher had gone 8-2/3 innings without allowing a runner to get to first base. Dallas Braden of the A’s and Roy Halladay of the Phillies were able to get the 27th out on the 27th batter to complete their perfect games, but Armando Galarraga of the Tigers was denied his chance at perfection by first base umpire Jim Joyce. Jason Donald of the Indians grounds to Miguel Cabrera at first base who flips to Galarraga covering first who was out but called safe by Joyce. The next batter would ground out to 3rd base to end the game and a 3-0 victory for Detroit.
